Travel Information

Flying to Copenhagen

Denmark is well serviced by airports, and most major airline operators have routes to and from the country. Scandinavian airlines such as Norwegian and SAS offer good deals for flights to Copenhagen.

EU citizens can travel freely to Denmark; citizens of other countries may require a visa. If you travel to Denmark from outside the Schengen agreement area, you may also require a visa. See here if you are from a country where you will need a visa to enter Denmark.

Non-EU citizens might be required to bring a passport when travelling to Denmark - e.g. US citizens need a passport, which must be valid at least three months beyond the estimated return date. See more about entry requirements here.

Getting your travel tickets in Copenhagen

Where to buy tickets in person

Always buy a ticket before boarding the train or metro.  The same ticket can be used in the metro, bus, train and harbour bus. Always have your ticket with you in case a conductor wants to see it. Travelling without a valid ticket will result in a fine of up to DKK 750.

You can buy your ticket in ticket machines, which accept Danish cash and the most common credit cards, or 7 Eleven kiosks at the train and metro stations. In Copenhagen Airport arrival hall and at Copenhagen Central Station there is a DSB ticket office as well as ticket machines. Onboard the buses in Copenhagen, you also have the possibility to buy your ticket from the driver, if you bring small change.

Pay with your smartphone

Download the app "DOT Mobilbilletter (hovedstaden)" in App Store and Google Play and pay for your tickets on the go. You will need an active mobile number to activate the app, so you might want to downland it before getting to Denmark. From there you can select the fare you need and enter your credit card details.

Ticket types

The regular ticket is a single trip ticket, which may be purchased in person or with your smartphone. You have to buy the amount of zones needed to get to your destination. 2 and 3 zone tickets are valid for one hour, which you will be mainly using during this conference. During this time you can use your ticket all you want in the metro, bus, train and harbour bus, as long as you do not pass through more zones than your ticket allows.

Don't worry about counting the zones, as you can enter your travel destination in both ticket machines or mobile tickets app and it will display the amount of zones required to purchase in order to reach your destinations.

There are other types of tickets, such as 24-hour ticket or Copenhagen Card, which also includes entrance to a number of museums and attractions. An easy option for the conference could be 72-hour City Pass in zones 1-4, which gives you unlimited access to buses, trains, metro and harbour buses in zones 1, 2, 3 and 4, which includes the centre of Copenhagen and to and from the airport, as well as around the venue of the conference. An adult 72-hour City Pass costs DKK 200. You can buy the City Pass online, using your mobile tickets app or in ticket machines.
